Cowper Art Gallery and Studio are welcoming Spring with ‘Under Clarence Skies,’ the first solo exhibition by Maclean-based painter Melanie Pannack. Since relocating to Maclean in early 2025 she has become fascinated by the landscape of the Clarence Valley, its flat floodplains, hilly horizons and changing patterns of light. Her most recent work makes particular use of stippling effects and fine, swirling lines of colour and her bold landscapes recall the work of Fauvist artists such as Andre Derain. The work on show is being exhibited for the first time and represents her deep engagement with the region, its native vegetation and birdlife.
